The Belgian beach hut: an icon in miniature

Say sea, and you say beach. Say beach, and you say beach huts.

After the success of our iconic Middelkerke benches, another symbol of our coast was bound to follow. The question kept coming: "When is the beach hut arriving?" We thought we were making it easy on ourselves, but it turned out to be anything but.

A sea of variations Where the benches let us focus on one specific, authentic model, the beach huts landed us in a maze of choices. The Belgian coastline is a patchwork of styles. From the typical roofs in Middelkerke to the bathing machines of the early 20th century that slowly turned into huts.

The details are in the small things: leaf hinges or cross straps? A roof of zinc, white-painted linoleum, or sturdy roofing felt? With or without a 'terrace'? A terrace in white, weathered grey wood, or treated with carbolineum (those were the days 😉) …

In the end we chose the most universal and recognisable model on the Belgian coast.

A design that strikes the perfect balance between nostalgia and aesthetics. We went over every detail with a magnifying glass, exactly as you've come to expect from our benches. It's a tribute to the huts you see standing on the sand from Knokke to De Panne: timeless, charming and pure.

But we wanted to do more than make a handsome object. That's why the roof of our miniature hut is removable. Use it as a one-off jewellery box, or fill it with something tasty to give as an original gift. Or turn it into a money box! You can choose a roof with a slot in your order at no extra cost if you'd rather. And of course a little sand around the hut couldn't be missing 😉.
